AEP Ohio files to extend electric security plan

AEP Ohio, a unit of American Electric Power, has filed a proposal with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to extend its Electric Security Plan (ESP), with amendments, to May 2024. The current ESP is due to expire in May 2018.

The extension would allow AEP Ohio to continue to improve customer service and reliability including the replacement of aging equipment and aggressive tree trimming and vegetation management programs to reduce outages. The company will also invest in a new communications system to hasten dispatching of crews and restoration of service when outages occur and security enhancements to increase the protection of substations from vandalism and physical attacks.

AEP Ohio delivers electricity to almost 1.5 million customers of AEP’s subsidiary Ohio Power Co in Ohio.
