India plans to increase its renewable energy capacity to 25 gigawatts (GW) this year, with an aim to further boost it to 40GW in the following year, New & Renewable Energy Secretary Bhupinder Singh Bhalla said at the India Energy Transition Summit 2023. Elaborating on India's ambitious green energy roadmap, Bhalla mentioned, "We are mapping out an annual bidding trajectory for the next five years, aiming for 50GW of new capacity each year." He further highlighted intentions for at least 10GW to be sourced from the wind sector.
