The need for electricity transport between concentrated generation and consumption areas will further increase in future, despite or in addition to distributed generation. Especially in Europe with the integration of renewable energy on a massive scale into the power system and with the market integration, there is a need for transmission capacity, or more in general, a need for further enhancement of the interconnected AC-system. Multidirectional, highly variable, bulk transports are asked for, on shore and off shore.
Although several HVDC-links today are inserted, and more and more planned in the system parallel with technological achievements, the step towards real “grids” in HVDC-technology still remains to take. Further along the “quest” towards HVDC-grids, technological innovation requires an open mind set, and it is crucial to avoid “conforming to” or “copying” concepts used during decades of designing AC-power systems and supply chains.
The national committee wants this workshop to be the bridge from recent achievements or planned projects (state of play) within grids as presented during the first 2 days, towards the starting point of new thinking and debate for the future. This appeals to an open interaction between all electricity market actors, in order to obtain full coordination in space and time in future integrated power systems!
This workshop can be combined with Cigré Belgium’s Innovation for secure and efficient transmission grids Conference
