Government of Canada invests in next generation sustainable technologies

The Canadian Minister of Science, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, has announced CA$50,014,110 in new funding for 94 projects through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Projects covered by the funding will be in the areas of environment and agriculture, information and communications technologies, natural resources and energy, and advance manufacturing.

The 94 research projects are being supported over the next three years, with average funding per project of CS$532,065. Four of the projects will be supported by the University of Ottawa, with 32 students receiving expertise and training from Canada’s research leaders.

One of these projects will focus on improving the ability to transmit information by optical power links instead of the traditional copper wires. The result of this project could greatly improve the ability to transmit vast quantities of data and wirelessly connect to everyday objects.
