The concept of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) is expected to be key to smart grids.
V2X technology consists of a bi-directional charging system, so that electricity can be transmitted between an on-board battery and infrastructure. The charger not only re-charges EVs and PHEVs, but can utilise electricity stored in their batteries when necessary, discharging this energy back into the building or grid. This doubling up of energy storage and emergency power supply functionality will contribute to the development of EV/PHEV penetration and support the grid as a disaster countermeasure. Moreover, connecting solar panels and external storage directly to the charger allows for a more efficient electricity supply to buildings.
